The United States of America 🇺🇸 (USA), commonly known as the United States (U.S. or US) or America, is the country where the Apple Computer Company (predecessor to Apple Inc.) was founded in 1976.

The United States consists of 50 states, a federal district, five major self-governing territories, and various possessions.[1] At 3.8 million square miles (9.8 million km2), it is the world's third- or fourth-largest country by total area,[2] depending on the inclusion of coastal and territorial waters.[3][4][5]
Most of the mainland United States is located in central North America between Canada and Mexico. With an estimated population of over 329 million, the U.S. is the third most populous country in the world. The capital is Washington, D.C., and the most populous U.S. state is California, where Apple is headquartered.
Apple in the United States[]
As of January 20, 2024, there were 271 Apple retail stores in the United States, more than any other country.[6][7] On May 30, 2020, stores in the United States were looted in the wake of nationwide protests over the death of George Floyd.[8] Many were also temporarily closed during the COVID-19 pandemic.[9] On December 14, 2023, the newest U.S. store, the Apple Birkdale Village, was opened within the Birkdale Village shopping complex in East Rutherford, New Jersey.[7] The next newest U.S. store, the Apple Del Amo, is expected to open in the spring of 2024, within the Del Amo Fashion Center mall in Torrance, California.[10]
