Migration Assistant is an application utility which allows a user to transfer their information from one Mac to another, usually a newer model.
Description[]
Migration Assistant previously worked by using Target Disk Mode over FireWire, but now can connect through Ethernet, Wi-Fi, Thunderbolt, or USB.
The following types of information are transferred:
- User info
- Applications
- Network and machine settings
- Files
- Volumes
To use the assistant, the user must authenticate as an administrator. The information on the other Mac will remain unaffected.
