The Macintosh LC was a low-cost Macintosh capable of displaying color (hence its abbreviation LC, which stood for low-cost color). Their distinctively low/slim design earned them the nickname "pizza box".

The Macintosh LC debuted in early 1990, and was followed by the Macintosh LC II and Macintosh LC III later.

The LC debuted with a rather slow Motorola 68020 microprocessor (the LC II, which came out about a year later, came with a Motorola 68030 chip).

Some LCs were later rebranded or additionally branded as Performas.
