KanjiTalk (漢字Talk or 漢字トルク) is the Japanese version of the Macintosh system software and Mac OS. It made a 1986 debut.

Versions

KanjiTalk 1.0

KanjiTalk 1.0 was the first version of the Japanese system, debuting with the Macintosh Plus in 1986. It was based on System 3.0 (English version). A minor update, KanjiTalk 1.1, was released later.

KanjiTalk 2.0

KanjiTalk 2.0 was the second major version of the Mac system software in Japanese. Debuting in 1987, it was closely based on System 4.1 of the English system.

KanjiTalk 6.0

The third major version of KanjiTalk saw a rise of the version number to 6.0, a result of synchronising version numbers with the English system software. Released along with System 6, versions of KanjiTalk 6.0 continued until KanjiTalk 6.0.7 was released.

KanjiTalk 7.1

Released with System 7.1, it came out after the big release of System 7. This 1992 release was also WorldScript-ready.

KanjiTalk 7.5

KanjiTalk 7.5 was released, along with subsequent updates, nearly in sync with the release of System 7.5, Mac OS 7.5.1 and other minor updates. Of the updates released, KanjiTalk version 7.5, 7.5.1, 7.5.2, 7.5.3 and 7.5.5 were released.

After KanjiTalk 7.5

The Japanese Mac OS continued after KanjiTalk 7.5, but there was no KanjiTalk 7.6 in name. KanjiTalk was absorbed in name into the Mac OS.

"KanjiTalk" in Mac OS X

"KanjiTalk" is integrated into all versions of Mac OS X. It no longer exists in name, as it is now the Japanese language version of Mac OS X.
