At the same time as Copland was being prepared, Apple Inc. was busy working on the successor project for Copland, named Gershwin.

The major problem Gershwin would resolve would be memory management. Copland would have made pre-emptive multitasking a reality -- to an extent, with the extra bits left for Gershwin.

Gershwin was "killed" at the same time (if not earlier) Copland was cancelled.
