The Macintosh LC 520 was released by Apple Computer in June 1993 and was discontinued in January 1994.
Description[]
The LC 520 was a departure from the "pizza box" of the Macintosh LC series up to that point. The design was an enlarged hybrid of the Macintosh LC III and the Macintosh Color Classic. The all-in-one form factor housed a 14-inch Trinitron color monitor, a floppy drive, and a CD-ROM drive, as well as a built-in microphone and stereo phase-shift speakers.
Like other LC models, LC 520 was available only through educational channels. A version for the consumer market was sold as the Macintosh Performa 520.[1]
Its short 7 months of time on the market didn't mean failure. Its form factor was used by its successors, the Macintosh LC 550 and LC 575, both featuring improved performance with faster processors in the same form factor.
System software[]
The Macintosh LC 520 requires System 7.1 with System Enabler 403 and can run versions of the Macintosh system software and Mac OS through Mac OS 7.6.
