The iPhone 5C is an entry-level smartphone that was designed and developed by Apple and announced in a special event on September 10, 2013, alongside the higher-end iPhone 5S. The iPhone 5c is an iPhone 5 with a plastic case. It became available for pre-order on the following September 13th.[3] Both models became available with iOS 7 on September 20, 2013.[4]The external casing of the iPhone 5C is made of plastic (instead of metal like other iPhone models) to reduce its cost and was available in various colors like the 5th-generation iPod touch.[5] It was discontinued on September 9, 2014 with the introduction of the 1st-generation iPhone SE.

Apple released the budget-priced iPhone 5C ($99 for 16 GB version with carrier discount) to compete with other lower priced smartphone models. The device features an Apple A6 processor and an 8 megapixel camera. The FaceTime camera received an upgrade to HD quality. Other features include the 4 inch retina display and the Bluetooth 4.0 LE and dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11a/b/g/n. The iPhone 5C is available in green, yellow, blue, white and red colors. Apple also released cases to go along with the 5c made of silicon rubber. The iPhone 5C was sold in the United States by the big three carriers: AT&T,[6] Verizon, and Sprint. In Canada, where the prices and plans are more expensive, they were available from Rogers, Bell,[7] Koodo, Fido and VirginMobile.

- Like some iPod models, the iPhone 5C was available in a variety of colors: Pink, Yellow, Green, Blue, and White.
- There would be no new blue or yellow colored iPhone until the iPhone XR and no green colored iPhone until the iPhone 11.
- The plastic shell on the phone was reinforced with metal.[5]
- The iPhone 5C can be updated to iOS 10.3.3. The iOS 10.3.4 update was released to patch a GPS bug in other models, not the 5C.[8]
