AutoRemounter is a control panel which only comes with System 7.1. It is mainly used for portable Macs. Despite this, it is useless on PowerBook models 100 through 170 (which were the first PowerBooks ever produced by Apple).
Its primary function is to automatically mount the hard drive of a remote Macintosh after each system wakeup (that is, after sleep mode is deactivated by waking up the portable Mac). It also works if the Mac was switched off. This is where its name is derived from (AutoRemounter -- automatically remounting hard drives).
It also has a security option, which prompts passwords to be entered every time a network disk is about to come online.
