Apple System Profiler in Mac OS 10.3

The Apple System Profiler has been with Macintosh computers since around the time of Mac OS 7.6. As the name suggests, it is an application created to gather detailled information on the Mac it is still on. This information can then be sent or be divulged with Apple in tech support cases, amongst other uses.

Mac OS 7.6 through Mac OS 9.2.2

The Apple System Profiler was a Classic application program. It could be found directly under the Apple menu and so was located inside the Apple Menu Items folder.

Mac OS X

With the first two general releases of Mac OS X (Mac OS X 10.0.x and Mac OS X 10.1.x) the only way to access it was via the Utilities folder inside the Applications folder.

As of Mac OS X 10.2, the About This Mac window includes a More Info... button, and the System Profiler was automatifcally launched when that button was pressed.

As of Mac OS X 10.3, the utility was renamed System Profiler. It now has a much different interface that all previous versions.
