The Apple Certified Help Desk Specialist (ACHDS) certification verifies an understanding of Mac OS X core functionality and an ability to configure key services, perform basic troubleshooting, and assist end users with essential Mac OS X capabilities.

To earn the ACHDS certification, a candidate must pass the Mac OS X Support Essentials exam. The exam is revamped for each new version of Mac OS X. As of April 2007, the exam covers Mac OS X v10.4 (Tiger).

When the OS and/or exam are updated, the ACHDS certification remains valid for the specific Mac OS version that the Specialist was tested on.
